WEEDWILD

Weedwild is the name J. Francis Murphy, the late 19th - early 20th C American Tonalist painter, gave to the 25 acre property he and his wife, Adah Clifford Murphy (also a painter) acquired in the Catskills in 1887. The shingle style cottages and studios they constructed became part of the Pakatakan Art Colony, which is now listed as a historic district. Margaret Leveson and her husband bought Weedwild in 1977. Margaret uses J Francis Murphy's studio and has painted many views of Weedwild's woods, gardens and structures.
